An Initiative to Seed the Difference by MNLGrowkits and Plöntur
MNLGrowkits (http://mnlgrowkits.com) and Plöntur is launching the GreenerMNL Movement across different locations in Metro Manila on October 27, 2016 with continuing launch activities until October 30, 2016. The GreenerMNL Movement is an advocacy that promotes environmental sustainability. Its ultimate goal is to align agriculture into the lifestyle of every millennial, as it is one of the few and most important things we all share together — the environment.
The hashtag #GreenerMNL will be used throughout the campaign. The #GreenerMNL hashtag should be used in a public post. Every post using #GreenerMNL will contribute 50grams of organic fertilizer to a collective fund that will be donated to Tsaa Laya Mint Farmers in Kiangan, Ifugao.
These indigenous families are involved in mint farming — an industry with a small number of farmers. They were specifically chosen as beneficiaries for the movement to make productive use of some abandoned rice terraces. This allow the farmers to have the income and resources to conserve and promote their terraces as world’s heritage sites. As we only have limited mint farming in the Philippines, this community’s growth through this livelihood is something we look forward to.
Jess Lauchengco-Lim and Carlo Sumaoang, best friends from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business (AGSB), first thought of the #GreenerMNL movement through their random conversations about incorporating agriculture in the urban setting. It has come to their senses that the millennials are overwhelmed on how fast-paced and tech-savvy their lifestyles are. Most of them become preoccupied with “the life” that we take the agriculture aspect for granted.
The MNLGrowkits team, being millenials themselves, are maximizing the use of social media to send the message to “seed the difference.” They believe that small actions done by each person can contribute to a bigger outcome.
In line with this, the group contacted influential millennial online personalities representing different lifestyles to become “Green Movers”. “We believe that as online influencers, our green movers will be able to reach their following audiences to add something green to their current lifestyles”, said Jess, now Head of Marketing of MNLGrowkits.
The Green Movers is composed of millennials focusing on different kind of lifestyles: Team SinoPinas for Travel Photography and Tourism, Reese Lansangan for Music, Alessa Lanot for Arts and Design, PJ Lanot for Motivational Movement and Entrepreneurship, Rod Marmol for Literature and Jacob Sarreal for Mountaineering.
Sharing their experiences through their hashtag #GreenerMNL will make the entire globe discover that people are actually making things happen and encourage them to also do the same.
After a while, the MNLGrowkits team realized that aside from social media, one powerful tool they can use is the power of design. Greenifying the unconventional green places where most millennials go to, landscapes will set contrast to create noise and curiosity, sending out a bigger message. It was then they met up with Erick Yambao of Plöntur. Plöntur is a growing outdoor design-solutions company driven by passionate, professional designers and builders from different fields, forged by the same vision of creating a world with thriving, beautiful, well-designed, well-built and sustainable living spaces.
Their meeting sparked collaboration as their minds and visions are in synced. Erick’s Vision for Plöntur is to shake up the industry and challenge the way people look at landscapes, which was very much aligned with the values of the GreenerMNL Movement.
The places that are expected to be greenified with the help of Plöntur are: Primal Ape Crossfit, Yardstick Coffee, Ford Edsa Trucks and Bambike Revolution Cycles. The following can be expected at these locations:
Primal Ape CrossFit – The lobby will be greenified (with tropical design) as where the crossfit enthusiasts can chill and lounge while waiting for their group activities. Infused Water using the growkits will be served at Primal Ape CrossFit’s Halloween Party
Bambike Revolution Cycles – The 10AM Scheduled Eco Tours for October 27, 28 and 29 will have greenified bambikes. By the end of the tour, a mini workshop will happen and each participants gets to take home their own growkit
Yardstick Coffee – The Industrial Cafe’s front will be designed with big plants. The minimalist-themed location will also have all-grown growkit per table. A mini planting workshop will also be held where participants can also take home their own growkit
Ford Edsa – Greenhils – A part of their showroom will be greenified with Ford Ranger being the main attraction. The branch will also give away growkits to those who will purchase during the #GreenerMNL Period
Uber has also been tapped to create awareness about “GreenerMNL” as a promo code. The New User Promo Codes can be used throughout the day to get 200Php off in Uberpool, Uberx and Uberhop rides valid for 1 trip for new users.
The movement is set to launch on October 27, 2016 and will have continuing launch activities until October 30, 2016. The MNLGrowkits Team and collaborative brands are gearing towards a long-term partnership for a #GreenerMNL. It will be a synergized initiative with goals to make a positive and lasting impact in this age and time.
The GreenerMNL Movement will be made possible with following partners: Plöntur, Discover MNL, Coconuts Manila, Ford Edsa, Vivo Lumio, Primal Ape Crossfit, Yardstick Coffee, Novatech, Lechuza Philippines, Uber, Bambike Revolution Cycles and Pinoy Catalyst.
